Poet and spoken word artist, Kimba, visits Chase High School

On Monday 9 June, Kimba, a performance poet and spoken word artist, came to Chase High School to meet the Year 7 and 9 pupils and deliver some performance poetry workshops to foster a love of poetry.

During the assemblies, Kimba passionately spoke about his love of hip hop, what encouraged him to start writing, and the inspiration behind his poetry. This was followed by a performance of examples of his poetry to the pupils, exposing them to the wonders of rhythm and rhyme. Pupils also got the chance to received signed copies of his debut poetry book, which was released in early 2022, called 'Write the Wrongs'.

Kimba wrote his first significant poem aged 11, but it wasn't until he received a full scholarship to study at Drafting and Design Technology at Morehead State University, that he acknowledged the importance of expressing self creativity through writing and performance. Since finding his voice through poetry and performance, Kimba has worked extensively with several schools, colleges, charities, and corporations.

In addition to his performance and poetry work, Kimba has also released two hip hop albums that have received high praise and support, with his music featuring in a film production in the United States.
